Özet

Türkiye Ortadoğu bölgesini şekillendirmeye yönelik aktif politika yapımından uzun süre kaçınmıştır. Bunun gerisindeki nedenler sadece realist bir bakış açısıyla değerlendirilebilecek zorluklar değildir. Türkiye'nin özellikle de Arap ülkeleriyle arasındaki mesafeyi tam anlamıyla anlamak için psikolojik faktörlere eğilmek gerekmektedir. Irak savaşı ve sonrasındaki gelişmeler ise, Türkiye'yi Ortadoğu'da çok daha aktif bir oyuncu olmaya zorlamaktadır. Bu süreçte göze çarpan diplomatik hareketliliğin dikkat çekici yanı, ortak kimliğe ait algılarda yaşanan değişimle iç içe geçmesidir.

MIDDLE EAST PERCEPTIONS OF TURKISH FOREIGN POLICY ELITES AND THE WAR IN IRAQ

Abstract

Turkey has been abstained from active policy making to shape the Middle East for a long time. The reasons behind this are not only the difficulties arising from the reaslist way of look. It is necessary to bend on the physological factors to understand the space between Turkey and, especially, the Arab states. However, the war in Iraq qnd the developments afterwards force Turkey to be a more effective player in the Middle East. The significance of the diplomatic efforts in this process is the overlap with the change in common identity perceptions.
